(Hobart) Although big banks are still reluctant to lend money, frequently requiring a deposit of 30 to 40 percent, first time home purchasers remain committed to purchasing. According to the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania, those purchasing a home for the first time made up 19 % of sales in quarter 1 of 2013.
The typical price of homes for sale in Hobart dropped by 1.4 % with the mean price of those in Launceston dropping by 4.4 percent. By contrast, the average price of north west houses increased 7 %.
