Tips For Getting The Motorcycle Hauler That Is Right For You

By Bernice Terry

Take a moment and think, chances are you have never heard of a person buying a bike for a motorcycle hauler they already own. As a rule most people will buy themselves a hauler only after they have a bike to haul. It is critical to consider all your options before spending your hard earned money on something that could, if not properly constructed, damage your bike.

The reasons for acquiring one are as various as there are different types of people. Some dislike the idea of riding across the country while dealing with the rain and the wind. Sometimes it is just too cold or too dusty or too hot to really enjoy longer rides. Sometimes it may be a money vs maintenance issue, fewer driven miles means it lasts longer and is more valuable if you try to resell it.

When somebody decides to acquire a bike trailer one of the different things they should think about is if the trailer should be open or closed. It is really surprising how people can spend so many hours cleaning their bikes up and dislike strange people getting around it and decide to move it from place to place on an open trailer. A closed trailer will often cost more but will also protect the cargo from any elements.

You should also look at what you have to pull a cycle trailer with. A small automobile will use far less petrol but can not generally pull a heavy weight trailer up or down big hills. If you have a stronger v-8 truck or car, then you could likely use a larger trailer.

Another thing to look at is whether or not to go with a single or a double carrier. A single is constructed to carry only one motorcycle at a time. They are generally small and lighter. A double can carry two motorcycles though they can move one for short distances. They are generally heavier and built a little beefier than the singles.

Generally most trailers are made from two separate types of material, steel and aluminum. Of these two aluminum is lighter, but can also make for rougher rides down the roads. They have a reputation of shaking and rattling more than steel. Steel trailers are typically built noticeably stronger, but also weigh considerately more. Use caution though, just because they are made from steel does not always mean they are well built.

Few things are as discouraging than carefully doing your research before you buy something but when you take it home you find out it is trash. Speak with your buddies about what works for them. Most any bike shop will be a good source for advice too. You could also try renting it first to see if it works ok.

Always check over the motorcycle hauler to make sure it is what you want before you purchase it. Consider how you plan to use it and how long you will keep it. Keep this in mind too, in the end people typically will always get what they pay for.
