Lavender Scents One Of Nature's Wonder Fragrances

This plant is not only eye catching with a pleasing smell it also has a number of healing and soothing properties that are greatly beneficial to both humans and domestic animals. Lavender Scents are known to be stress reducing and assist in creating an ambiance for a good night's sleep. Its many medicinal and culinary usages were discovered far back in the mists of time by primitive cultures. These qualities have now all been affirmed by various modern day scientific research programs.

Lavender cultivation is undertaken across the globe and enormous fields of Russian, Italian, English and French plants are annually harvested. The herb is however also popular in small and large home gardens and as a potted plant. When in flower the plants are covered in tiny florets ranging in color from deep bluish purples to light shades of lilac.

This herb belongs to the mint family and originated from regions such as Asia, India, around the Mediterranean and eastern and western Africa. It is however nowadays found almost anywhere where one finds abundant sunshine and sandy soil conditions. The fragrance itself is popular and for this reason the industry is using it in many bathroom toiletries. Over decades and through research the best varieties have been identified to ensure maximum yield and the highest quality.

As a culinary flavor it is mostly used in baking and making sweets. The flowers produce a lot of nectar and lavender honey is a very sought after product. Syrup produced from the flowers is also popular as a flavoring in sweet making and condiments. The flowers are often used to decorate cakes and to enhance plated food presentation.

Its medicinal qualities are numerous and in various forms lavender has been used in hospitals since the early 1900's. An essential ingredient to a number of skin ointments for rashes and burns it is also to be found in headache remedies. The pure honey has been known to assist in healing of open uninfected wounds.
