How To Make Personalized Flip Flops

By Lela Perkins

Having personalized flip flops is a great way to make a statement about your fashion sense without spending a great deal of money. These inexpensive summer shoes can be bought at a variety of different stores at varying prices. When you are buying, you may even want to buy more than one pair so you can practice your designs or simply have more than one pair to choose from when you are ready to go out and show them off to your friends.

While they can be bought made with different materials, it is likely you will find the shoes that have material foot straps are going to being the easiest to work with in this particular case. Once the style and color has been chosen then you just need to think about the materials you will add to you shoe.

There are near endless choices to choose from when choosing decorations for your footwear. The only thing to keep in mind is that you are going to want to choose items that are lightweight rather than heavy so they will stay on the shoe better. Some popular choices are glitter, embroidery, beads and ribbons among many. You can find a lot of different choices at crafting stores as well as discount shops.

Once you have chosen all of the materials you are going to use, think about how they will look on the shoes. Some avid crafters like to plan the design of their project right down to the last detail while others prefer just to place the different pieces on the shoe as they feel they look best as they go along. If you do however have a specific idea of how you would like it to look you may want to sketch it out on paper before you begin to have something to follow.

How you decide to put the decorations on the shoes is as important to consider as what you want to put on because they need to stick to the shoe. In most cases, people either sew the decorations on or glue them on. If you opt to use glue, consider using a glue gun. A glue gun can be a great tool with a project like this.

If you do decide to use the glue to decorate your shoes, be sure to only put a small dab on the area where the decorations are to be placed because you do not want glue spilling over and being seen after the project is complete . Once you are finished with your design you will need to allow the glue to harden on the footwear before you wear them to help prevent the decorations from coming off when they are used.

If you have chosen to use a needle and thread to hold you design on remember to use thread that is thick enough to hold the materials yet, not too thick that it would be uncomfortable on your foot. It is also important not to add to many layers of thread, like the glue, you do not want to see the thread too easily when looking down at your feet.

Kids will love a craft project making their own personalized flip flops. Since there are so many different sizes available kids of all ages can try. Do make sure that there is a grownup available to watch the kids while they work on their shoes and that the part they are doing is appropriate for them to do.
