Acknowledging Winter's Danger

By Rey Vetangelo

If you live in the United States, you know that there have been many debates about healthcare recently in our country. President Obama is currently trying to reform our healthcare system so that more people can have access to reliable and affordable healthcare.

Beyond just being cold, the months of winter experienced across the nation often bring with them dangerous winter storms.

In contrast, it appears to be extremely prevalent amongst Americans. People should be taking steps to prepare against cancer to (a) prevent it entirely, or (b) have all your ducks in a row to identify and treat it early.

One of the most common myths about the uninsured is that not very many people are insured. People who are insured sit and live in their own bubble without realizing how many people in our country are uninsured.

There are a number of prevention organizations that can keep you updated on the best ways to prevent cancer. These organizations include the Prevent Cancer Foundation, the National Cancer Institute, Prevention.com, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Firstly, a family or individual can begin to prepare themselves by equipping their home or apartment with an emergency kit.

Many times they discover it only after it's become a problem. If this is the case for you then you should start treatments immediately.

Approximately 8 out of 10 people are in families who work, but their jobs either do not offer them insurance benefits or they cannot afford to pay their portion of the cost of insurance. Many people also think that not having health insurance may not actually be that big of a deal.

These and other items as deemed by the family will be useful in any emergency but will likewise come in handy during a winter storm.

The business of insurance supports the system by collecting monthly premiums from you for a number of months/years before you make a major claim. By that point in time, your contributions to the company have helped supplement the costs of your medical bills.

Taking precautions during the winter storm will also become paramount. Driving is especially dangerous on icy roads and should be avoided wherever possible.

However, this is a very nave way of thinking about these serious topics. You are as likely to be diagnosed with cancer as anybody else, and that is the truth.

They should inform someone of their destination and route as well as confirm they have arrived at that location once they have done so.

If an individual or family cannot secure health insurance, they will most likely end up living with their illness or condition longer, or even dying. This is an issue that everyone should be concerned about, even those who currently have health insurance.

Also do all you can to prepare against it should prevention be impossible. This includes financial and emotional preparation to fight the disease.
