The Dangers Of Black Mold In Your Shower

By John Harrison

The last thing that you want to happen when you step into your shower stall ready to take a nice long shower is to see black mold staring back at you in all its unhealthy glory. Black mold is not only ugly; it can be a serious risk to your health and the health of your family, especially in the shower. The steam and heat in a small room like your bathroom gets your pores to open and encourages deeper breathing, which makes it even easier for nasty mold spores to get into your lungs. Unlike dirt or undesirable spots in your shower, black mold won't go away with a quick cleaning, but because of serious health risk you can't afford to let it linger anymore than you can stop bathing.

Mold Spores on the Rise - Without you even knowing it, there could be a multitude of spores drifting around your shower area, too small to observe with the naked eye. It's not enough to simply filter them from the air or open a window. You need to eliminate the source of the spores. However, black mold is infamous for being hard to clean. And every time you take a shower or bath, you might be inhaling more of the mycotoxins present in the spores. The sooner you get it removed, the better.

The Effects of Black Mold - The average person showers daily. And if there's black mold in your shower that means you might be getting an unhealthy dose of spores every day. If so, you may have started experiencing the effects that the mycotoxins in the spores can have on the human body, including: Cephalalgia (Headache), Rhinorrhea (Running Nose), Irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, Coughing and Sneezing, Constant Lethargy.

In extreme instances, there have been reports of people suffering bleeding in their sinuses and lungs. Not everyone will react the same, and some may have more extreme reactions than others. Still, even if you personally aren't suffering any noticeable ill effects, younger or older ones might be more susceptible. If your child has a persistent running nose, it may potentially be connected to black mold.

Eradicating Black Mold - Shower-cleaning solution and rags aren't enough when you're dealing with black mold, since you can only effectively clean the outermost surface. The mold may be penetrating deeper into the surface than you can reach. To fully remove the black menace, the most effective option is a steam-cleaner. Many grout-cleaning companies offer mold-removal as one of their services. The steam can reach deep into the crevices of the grout and kill any mold remaining.

A wet shower area is paradise to mold, but once the mold is gone, anyone experiencing symptoms should begin to feel better quickly. Enjoy showers again!
